To earn a complex rating, a student pilot must train with an appropriately Certified Flight Instructor. There is no hourly requirement or written examination, just an instructor endorsement. The pilot may hold either a PRIVATE or COMMERCIAL Pilot certificate. Hub City Aviation has a Piper Arrow that can be used for this endorsement, unless the student prefers to use his/her own aircraft. The Hub City Aviation Arrow may be used for rental once the training is complete. To meet insurance requirements, pilots must have 125 hours total time, 25 hours of retractable gear time, and 5 hours in the Arrow. If the pilot has 10 hours of dual time in the Hub City Aviation Arrow, the 25 hours of retractable gear time requirement is waived.
